home, elegant in its simplicity, ... is one of the most
delightful inns on the Mendocino coast."

the 10 best Inns in America"

"Like something in a storybook setting, the Glendeven
Inn
looks out on the coast through the trees.
Glendeven's old farmhouse is the first thing that visitors
see
when they arrive:
the New England-style Federalist home
has been modernized on the inside with comfortable
couches perfect for afternoon drinks or a chance
to watch llamas graze in the pasture."

"A LLAMA NAMED...
A frisky male llama was born at Mendocino's Glendeven Inn,
and the owner John Dixon emailed past guests to
announce a contest to pick a name. He took in 200 entries
-- a full third of them along the lines of Barack O'llama,
O'bama Llama or Se Llama Obama. But Dixon did not include
any of those among the contest's 10 finalists.
How come?
"Llama's are non-partisan," the innkeeper explains.
He also reveals, however, that one of the
Democratic front-runners has actually stayed at his B&B
and it's not the one whose
name rhymes with llama.
In April of 1984, Arkansas Governor
Bill Clinton wrote in the guestbook, 'Hillary
and I have had a 'Glendeven'ly good time. Thanks for the
inspiration -- I think that romance is as important as politics!'
Probably not the last time he used that line."

"Dear John,
Pat and I want to tell you what a wonderful getaway we had
last week at Glendeven. It had been at least 10 or 12 years
since we were guests there, and the Inn is better than ever.
We weren't disappointed. It was like coming home.
We had stayed there several times in the late 1980's and
early to mid 90's. Every change and improvement has just enhanced
the magic and joy of Glendeven. We cannot wait till we can
return. We only wish the drive wasn't so long, or it would
be more often.
We have also stayed at B & B's in many parts of the United
States and this visit, more than other inns and the old days
at Glendeven, felt especially warm and friendly. We enjoyed
the cameraderie with other guests at the wine and cheese hour.
Often inns do not encourage that activity and guests remain
separate. We met some very nice people. Thank you for providing
us with 4 wonderful nights at Glendeven."

Dear John,
'We were here in December 1994 in the Garret. What changes
have taken place!
It is so serene, and it's God's wondrous area with the ocean,
trees, little critters, and the llamas.
This was the perfect place to end our journey on the California
coast. The room was so open and airy, along with the treats,
and hospitality.
Thank you all for making our stay so special!"

"We spent our honeymoon in Eastlin and also our fifth anniversary.
Now we have returned and have enjoyed a very romantic 25th
anniversary in the same suite!
As anyone can sense by reading the comments of all the past
guests, this is a magical place that touched all of us.
What made this a special experience is how welcome Ashley
made us feel at Glendeven including sharing feeding the llamas
with her. We will be back soon!"

"Dear John,
Thank you for a wonderful stay and a chance to share the
beauty of Glendeven. The experience of waking up and
looking out to the Pacific, blue jays at your window, and
a floral path to add color to your day... of course the 4-star
breakfast basket is beyond words!! We wish you and Mike
the best."

"This place is just what I needed! It was my first time to
Mendocino and I so happy to have found Glendeven. How great
it was not to hear cell phones and TV noise. We enjoyed
our walks to the coast and seeing the birds, rabbits, and
deer. I hope to be back many times in my life.
What a treat it is for body, mind, and soul. Thank you
John!"

"My husband and I just got married after being together for
a very long time. Some really close friends suggested
this place, and surely we'll thank them forever. Our
stay was so beautiful. We just love each other more
after this unique experience. Life has taken us a long
way together and we have a longer way to go, but this isn't
our last stay here. So we'll see you soon."

"This was our first stay at Glendeven, and now we're
hooked.
The atmosphere, view, breakfasts and the bed (my wife says,
don't forget the bed!) all contributed to a romantic and memorable
weekend."

"Thirty three years of marriage! May we have 33 more
and spend our anniversary here. What a beautiful place.
My husband is sure it is the most wonderful place we have
ever stayed.... The website did not disappoint -- if anything
it is understated. We will definitely be back.
The peace, the gardens, the total relaxation -- truly special."

"What a beautiful setting and lovely room to celebrate
our anniversary of 39 years. This gift from our loving children
will begin a tradition of visiting the Mendocino coast, Glendeven
Inn and this wonderful space called Brair Rose."

"With 15 years of B&B stays in our past, we were
delighted to find the Carriage House. It's one of the very
best experiences we have had -- great setting, all the right
special touches and great breakfasts. What a memorable visit
to the North Coast! Thank you for doing everything well".

"Have you ever found yourself hesitant to return to
a place that exceeded your expectations because it might not
do so a second time? This is our second visit to Glendeven
and, needless to say, we haven't been disappointed!"

"In one word ... WOW! Glendeven has exceeded our expectations
by far. We've traveled all over the country, and in all aspects
this is one of the most beautiful inns we've ever visited.
The world needs more places like this."

"This is a wonderful room, a wonderful inn -- extravagant
simplicity. Heard no phone ring. Saw no television. Ate like
a ranch hand at breakfast. Life is lived in the details, and
it all has been considered here, without any sense of contrivance.
BRAVO!"

"Thank you. We needed a real break from the mad rush

a joy."

"How can it be that each time we return to this place
it is even more peaceful, pretty and perfect? We visit as
often as we can, sneaking away from our hectic routines in
the Bay Area. Thanks to . . . the entire staff for these 3
days of quiet and casual luxury".
