Mendocino Golf

If you’d like to experience Mendocino golf during your stay, Glendeven Inn is the right place: the Little River Golf Course is the only course on the on the Mendocino, California coast. Beautiful as well as challenging, the course has received certification from the Audubon society for protecting valuable natural resources while minimizing impact on the environment. This means that, in addition to its ocean views and redwood borders, deer have been known to occasionally meander through the course. In 2009 this Mendocino golf course was also named Best Overall at the Environmental Leaders in Golf Award.

The course has a unique history: to create it, owner Ole Hervilla first had to persevere through the negative predictions of locals who said no one would play there. When he found professional golf architects to be too expensive for his liking, he designed the course himself instead. It course was opened in 1957.

This Mendocino golf course is 5,498 yards—a modest size that results in a challenging game—and has 9 holes but, due to 3 placements and dual greens on holes 7 and 9, can serve to play 18. The course has all the features you would expect to find: a driving range, putting green and Pro Shop.
