California: Glendeven Inn Mendocino

November 2018 Named MSN’s #1 inn in California in its list of MOST CHARMING INNS IN EVERY STATE : “California’s northern coast is on magnificent display at this ocean view farmstead, with eight sprawling acres populated by free range chickens – that means there's fresh eggs for breakfast – and roaming llamas (yes, llamas). The spacious, amenity-rich rooms are the ultimate in B&B living: redwood furnishings, fireplaces and French doors. Plus, there’s Mendocino’s only wine barn, where you can buy locally-produced tipples.” MSN Travel

"Glendeven Inn in Mendocino, CA - Napa has the five-star status, but rural Anderson Valley boasts moma-and-pop wineries and prized pinot noirs. A customisable tour offered by the Glendeven Inn stops at 'cultish' wineries and for lunch in Boonville or Philo. USD 425 for two includes tasting fees, lunch and gorgeous scenery."  September 2017

Glendeven Inn Mendocino, Calif.

"A serene and romantic Mendocino B&B by the sea is an amazing proposition indeed. But what puts the Glendeven Inn over the top is that it's truly a farmstead, set on eight acres of meadow with, yes, grazing llamas. The property, considered a distinguished inn in North America by Select Registry also gives nod to its wine country locale by offering local wines by the glass at its Wine Bar. All of this comes at a good price, too.

The inn also offers a slew of packages and last-minute room discounts, often up to 20 percent off.

Amenities include complementary wine and hors d'oeuvres every evening and three-course, in-room breakfast with the inn's own farm eggs. Glendeven has mostly 5s on Trip Advisor."

The Week

Glendeven Inn Mendocino was selected the "Hotel of the Week" in the internationally acclaimed weekly magazine "The Week."

Clipping: Glendeven Inn, Little River, Calif. Unwind with wine at the Glendeven Inn, said Jessica Yadegaran in the Contra costa, Calif., Times . Situated on the Mendocino Coast, along California’s Highway 1, this bed-and-breakfast in a “restored, mid-19th-century New England-style farmhouse” welcomes guests home after a day of tastings at local vineyards. When the “coastal winds have chased that grape-ripening sun away,” you can enjoy one of 45 local wines served at the Wine Bar[n]. In the morning, you’ll be treated to a “divine homemade breakfast” before heading back out to the vineyards. THE WEEK August 20, 2010

Glendeven Inn Mendocino is named one of the top 20 destinations in the West in the February 2010 issue of Sunset Magazine.

"Off the grid on the coast: At Glendeven Inn, just south of Mendocino in Little River, your cell signal obligingly vanishes when you pull in the drive, and there’s not a remote control in sight.

Which means you’ll have all the time in the world to hike along the headlands of surrounding Van Damme State Park, scatter some corn for the inn’s chickens (it’s only fair―you’ll be eating their eggs come morning), and introduce yourself to the resident llamas.

If you just want to hide out in your room―for decor, think Down East meets Sea Ranch―that’s fine too. Your breakfast basket will be delivered to your door, along with a newspaper ... which we encourage you to ignore. From $139, including breakfast; 707/937-0083."–Christine Ryan

"The most romantic getaway in California. We had gorgeous views of the coast and a short walk to Mendocino Headlands Park, great food (featuring a truly excellent in-room breakfast), a lovely room with luxurious details (bedding, fireplace, robes, etc.) If you need a real break from the ordinary, and Zen-like relaxation, this is the place." Patty O'Sullivan, Los Angeles Times Travel, "Where to Go"

"The Lake Tahoe Antidote.  Mendocino. "No resorts here. Have your pick of an uber-cozy and charming inn, like the 150-year-old Glendeven Inn (8205 North Highway One, Little River). Spanning eight whole acres, the property's 10 oversized rooms with ocean views and wood burning fireplaces are joined by a long list of amenities and discoveries, like far reaching meadows home to llamas and chickens (which provide organic eggs for breakfast every morning), hiking trails, a massage cabin, private gardens, and a wine barn stocked with more than 50 local wines to purchase by the bottle."

Wanderings: Mendocino County, California, Get lost amidst a sea of natural splendor, glorious culinary culture, charming inns and plenty of art

Written By Kathy Chin Leong

"Little River’s Glendeven Inn delights visitors with chickens and llamas that came up from southern California with Glendeven owner John Dixon five years ago. The guests rooms feature pouches of chicken feed so visitors can sample country living. And three nights a week, Glendeven Inn hosts a farm-to-table dinner using local meats and fresh catch, and eggs and greens from his property. Glendeven also runs a unique wine bar featuring only red and white Mendocino County wines. Dixon loves to introduce titles from small wineries that take pride in producing small batches.

Last year Dixon opened new rooms at the sister property across the street dubbed the Inn at Cobbler’s Walk, named after the cobbler who once lived on the premises. Each of the (ten) rooms is replete with modern furnishings, televisions and fireplaces. "
